Short story: Our dog is allergic to our cats!!!
Long story: Our son's dog, Faolan, had a terrible time with allergies last year. She underwent allergy testing and she has been receiving allergy shots ever since. She is mostly allergic to oak trees, but she is also allergic to some grasses, dust, mold, common indoor allergies.
Today, I had our dog, Chablis, to the vet for the same testing. She had been biting at her paws just like Faolan was, except not quite as badly as Faolan. So it turns out that Chablis is allergic to cats, feathers, and wool (which would actually mean she is allergic to birds and sheep - good thing she isn't on a farm).
We have two cats: Pumpkin and Gepetto.
Pumpkin is around 12 -14 years old and is an outdoor cat who adopted us. He only comes inside when it is raining or cold outside. He was missing three weeks ago and when he finally came home there was something wrong with his mouth. It ended up being a broken jaw that he had. So his jaw is now wired up, he had a tooth removed (he only has a few left on the bottom), he can't go outside for a month (now two more weeks to go), and he has lost 2.3 lbs (he now weighs 6.8lbs).
Our other cat, Gepetto, is an inside cat that is FIV + and has herpes of the eye. She is five years old and was found in a doctor's parking lot. She was only 1.2 lbs and she is now a monster at 13 lbs.
So these two cats are part of Chablis's problems!
Whatever happened to the days where you had a pet, fed it, cared for it, got its rabies shots and license, and life was good? I hate to see what we have paid for our pets over the last few years!
