How is this a N-AT-I-O-N-A-L spelling bee???

While reading this article on the Scripps National Spelling Bee (http://m.tcpalm.com/news/2010/jun/04/ohio-teen-spells-juvia-stromuhr-win-scripps-nation/) I noticed the mention of contestants that came from China and New Zealand.  That makes the name of this contest a misnomer.  How would this be a national spelling bee if the contestants don't all come from the same nation?  I think it should then be called the World Spelling Bee if this is allowed.  Just my two cents....
