Governor Christie Gets an F for His Non-Effort

Our governor, Chris Christie, has been defending his choice to stay on vacation in Florida rather than return to his state of NJ and govern it while we were in a state of emergency.  He decided to take his family to DisneyWorld while his Lieutenant Governor Guadagno went on a cruise with her father for two weeks.  It seems that Guadagno's cruise was planned before Christie's trip.  I think that if the #2 person in the state government is away on vacation, the #1 person should be here in our state, and vice versa.  This blizzard is a prime example of why this should be implemented. 

If you look up governor in the dictionary, you will see something like this:

When I read Christie's comments where he said he was in touch via his cell phone and that he received many more calls than he would have preferred while on vacation (had this not been such a big problem for NJ), it sounded like he was quite annoyed that he had to take those calls and interrupt his vacation time.  When NJ was declared to be in a state of emergency, Christie should have packed his bags and returned home to make sure his people were being taken care of and he should have come to Monmouth County where the brunt of the storm happened. 

Instead, on his return, he said, "I would give the folks in New Jersey state government and the county government an A for the effort we put in."  And that "We probably get a B for results."  A B for results and an A for effort???  Did he see Middletown because he certainly couldn't have been talking about our town.  We had a snow plow come down our street on Monday, making one pass on our dead end street, and didn't see another plow for 6 days.  We didn't receive mail for a week, didn't get garbage picked up, and our newspaper carrier called and said she wouldn't come to our house until Middletown plowed it properly because she was afraid of getting stuck on our street.  

No one forced Christie to run for governor, but when someone does become a governor of a state, they had better be in that state when a state of emergency is declared.   Instead, he left his state when he should have planned his vacation for a time when his lieutenant governor would be here to take care of NJ.
